Harvard Graduate Commons

Farewell to the Hogles

GCP bid farewell to Faculty Directors Jim and Doreen Hogle at the end of this academic year, after seven years of service to the Peabody Terrace ("PT") community.  Following a year of research at the University of Leeds (UK) where Jim will be a Visiting Professor, the Hogles will retire to Vermont.

Residents past and present celebrated the Hogles' legacy at a small reception on May 21, 2019. The affair was filled with some of the Hogles favorite things, including a bluegrass band and barbecue!  Senior Program Manager, Amanda Sharick, who worked directly with the Hogles throughout their time in the role, testified to their impact on the PT population. Whether it was by opening their apartment every month for an Open House, or extending their own networks via Meet the Scholar events, the Hogles never wavered from their efforts to make Harvard feel like home for each and every resident. Mentors, friends, and advocates, they were ever-ready to comfort weary graduate students missing family far away, or needing a sympathetic ear after a tough day on campus.

As the Hogles take this next step, Graduate Commons is excited to welcome new Faculty Directors, Vinny Manoharan, Michelle Carter, and their son, Samuel, to the Peabody Terrace community this August. At the reception, Vinny and Michelle spoke of their eagerness to take up the mantle and further the Hogle's vision for an inclusive, engaged, and diverse residential community.
